Applied-Leadership-Connect-the-Dots-CoverLogo-shadowSpring, TX, May 28, 2013 – Leadership Expert Al Bolea knows that behavior drives potential. “If you act successful you are embracing the concept that you are successful and this can determine future possibilities,” says Bolea, Founder of Applied Leadership Seminars. His expert advice is based on research conducted by contemporary psychologists and neuroscientists. “Simply stated, when a person becomes aware of their behavior and changes it to adopt the behaviors of great leaders, they will become a great leader,” states Bolea.

Bolea offers an Executive Leadership Retreat, consisting of twelve participants (with a few positions still open), from August 11 – 16, 2013 in Alaska. This remarkable 5-day experience takes place on a guided fishing tour in the pristine waters of Alaska’s Inside Passage and combines the rigorous leadership theory with the expansive team experience of fishing in an area of natural wonders, which offers a rare opportunity for leadership teams to re-envision their organization’s future. Participants initially stay at the Cape Fox Lodge in Ketchikan then travel by sea plane to the Waterfall Resort, one of the finest remote sport fishing destinations in the world.

“What we learn in the meeting room they put into practice in the boats. If it works in the boats, it will work back at the office, plant or wherever,” says Bolea. “Anyone who has ever attended one of these retreats acknowledges that the experience delivers results at the bottom line.”

What makes Bolea’s seminars so special is that they are tied to real-life experiences; both his personal failures and successes as an executive. He doesn’t teach people about leadership; he teaches them how to lead and gives them the tools to do so. He nurtures their behaviors and opens up doors that allow them to discover their own new potential for themselves. The seminars are life-changing in that when attendees return to work their direction is clearer and more widely understood, stronger teams emerge, fewer mistakes are made and fewer opportunities are missed.

Founder and architect of the Applied Leadership Seminars, Al Bolea is an executive leadership coach whose clients come from many industries. His seminars are offered year-round and are designed as team experiences. Participants gain new leadership tools and build greater cooperation among the members, achieving lasting personal and professional transformations. Eleven seminar options range from 5 days in length for “Leadership Transformation” to a 1 day seminar for “Being A Leader.”

Bolea is the former CEO/GM of Dubai Petroleum and a retired BP executive. His industry career spans almost forty years, including assignments in the US, UK and Middle East. He lectures at the University of Houston, and is the Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the University of Alaska.

Critique Speak:

Scott Knutson, VP, Champion Technologies: “I met Al Bolea about 20 months ago in Houston when we were planning a restructuring of our company. This was a significant change and I needed commitment and strong leadership from my core team. On the first day of the seminar there was noticeable resistance in the room from some of the management team. Several of them admitted they thought ‘here we go again, another leadership course — can’t wait to get out of here.’ Al’s course content, teaching style, industry experience, coaching and candid demeanor changed all of the doubters and resisters to raving fans. I have participated in many leadership seminars over my 35 year career and the one Al put on that week raised the bar significantly. Al has been a good coach and mentor since we first met and continues to communicate with the team today.”

Jessica Oetker, Project Manager: “This is not your typical course on being a leader. It does not simply tug at the heart strings with generic, motivational fluff to give you a temporary lift. This seminar will motivate you as well as provide the necessary tools to put your vision into action. You will be better because if it, your followers will be better because of it, and your life will finally be on a true path with the inspiration and tool to propel you.”

Bethany Charlsen, VP, Relationship Management: “Al Bolea’s Leadership seminar changed my life – personally and professionally. I learned the value in leading with respect, integrity and courage. My approach to conversations with clients, friends and family will never be the same. Al helped me to recognize the importance of effective, meaningful conversations in building successful relationships, which are the lifeblood of a true leader. Al provides an engaging environment for students by teaching through stories, real-life scenarios, and practice exercises. The seminar was an incredibly powerful experience that I’ll never forget!”

Kuwait, June 2, 2013: The South Asia – Middle East – North Africa region’s SAMENA Telecommunications Council’s Chairmen & CEO’s Leadership Dinner, hosted by e Telecom Italia in Venice recently, brought together leaders of the telecommunications and content industries to explore prospects for cooperation and collaboration in order to exploit emerging business opportunities created by the convergence of media to drive further growth and investment in the future.

Preceded by an executive workshop, which was hosted by Telecom Italia in partnership with the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association,  and focused on generating a high-level debate on the future of the telecommunications and broadcasting market in the context of the ongoing global digital revolution, the SAMENA Council’s Leadership Dinner delved into addressing the needs of various stakeholders in the converged telecoms and content landscape; assessing emerging regulatory dimensions and business models; driving innovation at all fronts; and assuring the success of the core business. High-impact areas of the discussion included digitization, sustainability of the telecoms and the media industries, profitable business models that should guarantee future growth, and business transformation.

With the focus on securing the core business, especially when alternative players have also entered the telecoms and content business via the Internet, the discussion reflected the need to create and manage relations between telecom operators and broadcasters. This is especially true since, in the words of Mr. Franco Bernabè, Executive Chairman and CEO, Telecom Italia, “Users want more flexibility, better choice and ease of use.  An increasing number of users watch television while browsing the Internet or using other applications on tablets, PCs or smartphones. At home, the second screen – in particular tablets – is becoming the actual companion of the TV set, while users are shifting towards multi-screen offerings.” In such a situation, when video traffic on telecom networks has multiplied manifold, it is also observed that traditional broadcasters face similar challenges to those faced by telecommunications operators.”

With new regulatory frameworks, which should allow fair and justifiable advantage to all the players in the digital content value-chain, innovative means to secure partnerships and combine synergies, and standardization of technologies, such as content compression and protection protocols, both telecoms operators and broadcasters should be able to create new trends to enhance their business’ growth and help sustain future investments for the greater benefit of end-consumers.

On this occasion, Mr. Bocar BA, Chief Executive Officer, SAMENA Council, witnessing the success of the Leadership Dinner, said, “We have truly been privileged by the presence of the leaders of the global telecoms and broadcasting industries in our 4th Chairmen & CEO’s Dinner. I believe, our executive participants have shared their insights and concerns in a very personal and frank manner—and such an approach is key to addressing issues that really need to be voiced across industries and across stakeholders. Telecoms operators and broadcasting companies need both policy-level support as well as each other’s support to convert the existing challenges into beneficial opportunities.”

The SAMENA Council, in accordance with its organizational mandate, continues to emphasize on the need to transform business models across industries, especially as the adoption of digital services, applications, and tools gains greater adoption across the region. In such a situation, the SAMENA Council believes that there is a requirement to accelerate the adoption of digital services, while protecting the interests of all stakeholders and investment groups, so that investments are sustained and next-generation networks are put to their best use for providing best-quality integrated telecommunications and content services.

About SAMENA Telecommunications Council

SAMENA Telecommunications Council is a tri-regional, non-profit telecommunications association that represents over 40 telecommunications operators in 25 markets, representing an aggregate subscriber base of 790 million mobile users, including mobile broadband users, 79 million fixed-line users, and 22 million broadband users. The Council’s membership embodies a community of telecom operators, manufacturers, government bodies, academia, and leading global management consultancy organizations. SAMENA’s Board of Directors and member companies include the largest regional operators and global multi-network operators as well as new competitive entrants. SAMENA focuses on digitization and broadband investment policies, and aims to promote beneficial regulation and governance that further industry evolution, as well as cooperation among key ICT industry stakeholders.

Caernarfon Aerial North Castles Historic Sites

Visitors to the Wales Coast Path are in for a feast of festivals, as well as scenery, this season as they make their way along the country’s spectacular coastline.

Visitors can take a break to sample everything from, among others, a multicultural celebration to a festival devoted entirely to mackerel and a seriously fishy festival in Milford Haven.

If ever proof was needed of just how much is packed into Wales as a small country, the sheer variety of events to be enjoyed around the coast in the coming months offers huge choice no matter what your interests.

Food, drink, music and family activities are everywhere. Wales’ traditional Eisteddfodau are complemented by food and music from different cultures around the world.

And a range of intriguing and more relaxing ways of passing the time are there to be experienced around the coast too, including dipping into the world of ceramics or getting the bug for Beetles – of the VW kind.

It’s all accessible from the Wales Coast Path. Stretching from the Welsh border in North Wales to Chepstow in the south, it’s the world’s longest continuous coast path around a country.  Lonely Planet, the world travel guide, thinks it’s extraordinary, choosing the path as the world’s greatest region in its 2012 best-in-travel guide, ahead of attractions like the Ruta Maya in Central America, and Canada’s Maritime Provinces.

IV International Congress of Steel Construction: Enthusiasm and high expectations for the sector in Colombia

alaceroAlacero – Santiago, Chile, June 18th, 2013. Between June 12th and 14th, in Cartagena (Colombia) the IV International Congress of Steel Construction took place, with Alacero (Latin American Steel Association) as one of its sponsors. The event presented 33 international and Colombian speakers and an exhibition that brought together more than 50 companies. More than 500 participants included manufacturers, professionals and a large number of university and technical students, who came from all over the country.

Nowadays, Colombian annual steel consumption per capita is well below the world average. However, good prospects in the construction and infrastructure sectors encourage the steel construction industry trust a future of accelerated consumption and new opportunities.

Meanwhile, the Colombian government has been helping promote steel construction. As part of this initiative, it invited more than 30 students (chosen among the most outstanding ones) of the National Apprenticeship Service (Sena) to the Congress to familiarize them with steel construction. As recognition for this effort, Alacero awarded a scholarship for its Steel Design Course to one of the teachers that led the group.

“This initiative of Alacero –and the ones to come- will contribute to train technical high school students as designers or as field technicians in steel construction” – said Alberto Pose, in charge of the Diffusion of Steel Use area in Alacero, who was representing this organization in the Congress.

The drive and preference for steel construction has a tradition in Colombia. Already in 2010, this country was the first in the region to issue rules based on the ANSI / AISC 360-10 (building steel) and ANSI / AISC 341-10 (seismic provisions), that had been issued in USA that same year, and in the AISI 2008 for coldrolled steel. These measures became a solid technical foundation for structural design and strengthened the sector.

At the opening ceremony of the IV Congress, Juan Manuel Lesmes -Executive Director of
Andi-Fedemetal and Alacero Regional Secretary- said: “The construction accounts for 45% of steel apparent use in Colombia and 12% of employment, which compares with 15% of domestic industry”.

Lesmes also informed that Fedemetal expects that steel value chain (including steel mills,
metal-mechanic plants and shipyards) to be considered part of the government´s Productive Transformation Program, for which they working on the preparation of a business plan for the sector, with the support of an international consultant.

Fedemetal encourages “joint ventures” between foreign and Colombian companies in projects related to government procurement, as a mean to allow technology transfer to local industries. In this sense, agreements with USA and Canada (and the coming with the European Union) are perceived as an opportunity for the development of Colombia.

Regarding steel construction, Lesmes said “in the schools of Engineering and Architecture, steel construction materials should not be an elective but a mandatory course.” He also emphasized the value of the Design Competition for Architecture Students organized by Alacero, which attracts students from all over Latin America and generates great enthusiasm among Colombians.

About Alacero

Alacero –Latin American Steel Association- is the organization that brings together the Steel Value Chain of Latin America to promote the values of regional integration, technological innovation, corporate responsibility and social and environmental sustainability. Founded in 1959, Alacero is formed by 52 companies of 25 countries, whose production –of about 70 million annual tons- represents 95% of the steel manufactured in Latin America. Alacero is a Special Consulting Organization to the United Nations and is recognized as International Non-Government Organization by the Republic of Chile, host country of Alacero´s headquarters.

Indian Ghazal singer Tauseef Akhtar and Welsh folk singer Gwyneth Glyn selected by WOMEX jury to perform ‘Ghazalaw’ at the World music Expo in Cardiff, Wales this October

WOMEX announced the first much anticipated, prestigious list of international artists selected to showcase at WOMEX 13, hosted in Cardiff this year between 23 and 27 October. The competition for the career making public showcase slots was intense, with over 850 applications from world music groups and musicians worldwide for the 60 showcase slots. It’s an impressive line up of some of the best emerging world music talent on the planet, and heading the line up of WOMEX World Music Showcases is Wales’s own singer-songwriter, Gwyneth Glyn. She will perform a set from ‘Ghazalaw’, a new collaboration with Indian Ghazal singer Tauseef Akhtar.

‘Ghazalaw’ is a fusion of Welsh folk songs and Indian ghazal, an ancient poetic form originating in 6th-century Arabic verse. In this way it shares much with the ancient, tight-metered poetic form, that is such a feature of Welsh poetry and songs. As the project has developed, Gwyneth and Tauseef have been joined by other musicians including the talented Georgia Ruth Williams on harp and support vocals and Indian musicians Ashish Jha, Manas Kumar and Sanjoy Das. Gwyneth and Tauseef were introduced at Hafod Mastering’s roundhouse in St Hillary, the Vale of Glamorgan last year, and returned there to record the album earlier this year. The project was developed through support by Wales Arts International. Ghazalaw is sponsored by Air India.

Speaking of his delight at being selected to showcase, Tauseef Akhtar said:“Ghazals have finally evolved from mehfil’s to the world music platform, I am humbled to be part of ‘Ghazalaw’, which has been selected to showcase at WOMEX 13 Cardiff, Wales. It is a groundbreaking achievement not just for me but also for the genre of ghazal itself. Never before has ghazal been combined with something like Welsh folk music. Gywneth Glyn has been a wonderful musician and singer to work with. Her talent and persona inspired us all to take ‘Ghazalaw’ where it is now. I am so looking forward to performing at Womex 13, it will be a memorable milestone in the journey of my career.”

In response to the news, Gwyneth Glyn said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as one of WOMEX’s official 2013 showcase acts. It will be such a privilege to perform alongside world-class musicians from across the globe. As the seed of our music was sown at the Round House, Saint Hilary, only a stone’s-throw from where WOMEX will take place, it seems very fitting that this is where our harvest should be shared with the world. Our music celebrates the affinity between the Welsh folk tradition and Indian ghazal singing. We can’t wait to bring our unique sound onto the world stage.”

The huge task of distilling the best music from around the globe into 60 showcases is given each year to seven world experts in the field. WOMEX call these the ‘Seven Samurai’, and it is their task to listen to each submission, read every bid and take decisions that can virtually launch a musician or band’s international career. This year, Cerdd Cymru Director and Chairman of Welsh Music Foundation Alan James who runs his own music management organisation, Hold Tight Management was the Samurai selected to represent the host territory. He said: “It was a great honour to be invited to chair the jury for WOMEX 13 in Cardiff. Five of us gathered from all corners of the globe to listen and look at a record number of world music artists. We finally got our showcase, and we think it’s world class!”

The international WOMEX showcases will be presented over three nights, Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26th October, across 5 stages within Wales Millennium Centre and the Oval Basin. A ticket provides music fans young and old with a round the world music experience, and the chance move around, taste the music cultures from each corner of the globe, and experience some truly international virtuosic performances. Tickets for the WOMEX World Music Showcases are £17 in advance and £22 on the day. If you wish to attend all three of the World Music Showcases you can purchase a three day ticket for £45 from the Wales Millennium Centre Ticket Office by calling 029 2063 6464. A limited number of concession tickets are available in advance for Students and Over 60s. Please call the Ticket Office for more information.

WOMEX 13 Cardiff is hosted by Cerdd Cymru: Music Wales. This is a partnership between Arts Council of Wales/ Wales Arts International and Welsh Music Foundation. WOMEX 13 Cardiff project partners are Cardiff Council, Motorpoint Arena and Wales Millennium Centre. WOMEX 13 Cardiff is supported by Welsh Government and British Council .

The name Bonderam originates from ‘Bandeira’ – the Portuguese word for flag. During the Portuguese rule there were frequent disputes between the villagers on the Divar island over property issues. Thus the Portuguese introduced a system by putting up flags to demarcate the boundaries.
